It self extinguishes on its own, but other combustable stuff burning around it will keep it burning, one gulp of the toxic smoke would probably kill you.I tried chucking some offcuts of Kingspan on the bonfire and it didn't burn.
You could use that fire board same stuff used as register plates above stoves with victulite behind chimney insulation
Dont use anything but rockwool or totally incombustable materiels anywhere near a stove.out of interest my woodburner in the garage is around 3" from the block wall .is it possible to put a layer of kingspan type stuff and a steel plate coveribg it?it should insulate the wall and direct more heat outwards ??
OR put the insulation on the outside, and use the heat put into the wall as a storage heater ?
