They radiate more heat out of the door than coal/smokeless. Honest.Thinking about it, the nice flames lighting up the room through the glass from burning logs probably increases the cozy feeling.
We buy the best grade (can't remember what it's called, just get the same order each year) from https://www.connon.co.uk/buying_coal.php in Ellon. The grade of coal makes a big difference, it's night and day to the stuff you get from the garage. They deliver it and load into our coal bunker.
I've just placed an order from Connon for some anthracite to see how it performs as I want to keep the stove going all night.
a stone house here too that i did up myself 4 yrs ago.We live down stairs , 3 spare beds and a bathroom upstairs, i cocked up in my design, as the heat store tank and dump radiator are on either side of a wall in cupboards, hence why i need the fan. Im lucky as although our house is old stone, i took it back to bare stone and extended/ insulated everything....cant fault the stove or the mountain of money on under floor heating and insulation. A rated glass is a big bonus too, worth the extra is buying new windows.
All the wood were burning now was cut and dry stored, a year past August. Glad i split most of it, the ones i didnt were as hard as hell to split with the axe. Ended up borrowing neighbours tractor and log splitter.....lucy to still have my fingers with that contraption.
did you ever try ovoids?I've just placed an order from Connon for some anthracite to see how it performs as I want to keep the stove going all night.
HEHE My old boxer dog Ice, luvs the fire too, when I am building it, he sits along side me leaning against me watching and keeps looking at the fire building and then turning to me as if to say come on!!! get it lit. WE get it roaring in a few minutes, then I lie down in front just to make sure nothing falls out, then he lies on my chest to make sure I dont move------- in case anything falls out.Yep cant beat an open fire, even the Mals thinks so
did you ever try ovoids?
i use them here, find them good.
you should try a bag if you havnt and see how it compares, id be interested.
Yip, those simple pleasures are the best.Lying in front of the stove with all the dogs ensconced around me like is one of the very best things in life.
OR put the insulation on the outside, and use the heat put into the wall as a storage heater ?out of interest my woodburner in the garage is around 3" from the block wall .is it possible to put a layer of kingspan type stuff and a steel plate coveribg it?it should insulate the wall and direct more heat outwards ??
I tried chucking some offcuts of Kingspan on the bonfire and it didn't burn.out of interest my woodburner in the garage is around 3" from the block wall .is it possible to put a layer of kingspan type stuff and a steel plate coveribg it?it should insulate the wall and direct more heat outwards ??
