That's an awesome deal. Loadsa money there I bet you got £100 worth of brass in one pic and that steel body Pratt chuck is worth a chunk of money too.
Not sure what you mean about rust on the ways, I don't see much but a few specks of it. It'll disappear with use.
Get some way oil, and take care of the ways. I've been playing with lapping recently and you would not believe how fast metal disappears if you get any kind of abrasive medium between two ways.
Just took the coolant pump apart and want to test it, I'm filthy with old manky coolant etc so don't want the pristine manual out here with me so does anybody know which is live and neutral out of the 2 cut brown wires?
It's a 240v pump and earth is to casing so I was going to connect to a plug just to test it out quickly and see if it works as it didn't via the switch on the lathe cabinet but that wiring I have not checked yet
The lead screw etc has been covered intentionally it seems with some kind of grease coating as you can see, once cleaned off they look like new which is great
With regards to my M300 that has no lifting eye.......maybe this was never drilled and tapped on the earlier models?
But as long as the hole is straight and true can anybody see any reason why I can't drill and tap my M300 in the same place for an M16x2.00mm pitch lifting eye?
Not sure on the 300, but the new next size up shows using a strop around the bed to lift, book shows cation, I know as I bought one for work a couple of years ago!
The only thing left on the bad now is the head stock assembly
Now I'm not taking it all apart as it all seems good but my question is if I undo the 4 large Allen bolts and remove the head stock
Will it go back on easily and true just sat back on the bed v ways? Or is there shimming or adjustments for tilt and angle etc? If there's a risk it won't go back on straight I'd rather leave it
Did you take the head stock off?
The gap between it and the bed, that allows swarf and more frustratingly small parts to disappear into a void, never to be seen again.
I've a rag stuffed in there, at some point I'll make a bung
