After a bit of info ....thinking of building a shot blast booth big enough to blast alloys ,gates and big enough for a car shell .
What would be the ideal size for a compressor and what size dust extractor would I need ?
Cheers Keith
The size of compressor depends on the size of the nozzle, which in turn depends how fast you want to work. The size of compressor isn't determined by the size of the booth.
Are you looking doing this as a hobby or business?
Extraction does depend on the size of the booth, as well as the factors above. I had a 6' x 4' booth with a Clarke 1hp chip extractor. I fitted extra filters to the output to increase flow, but there is room for even more filters to be added.
You need to seal the doors and edges and provide an inlet for air at the top of the booth and extract from the bottom, opposite to the inlet. You have to aim for a good flow of air rather than a pressure drop.
a 90cfm comp using a 6mm nozzle is minimum and doing gates wants to be bigger than that unless u have all day to waste faffing about then shell out for an air fed blasting helmet about 180 quid
