I need to patch my Land Rover's chassis up for the MOT this year, so time to learn to do root welds! Haven't touched the welder in a few months.
I cut off some squares of 2mm and 3mm steel (the chassis is/was 2mm, repairs to be done with 3mm) and had a go...
Hole-tastic! I was using 2.4mm rods at the welder's max output (80A) due to the 3mm plate, should I switch to 2mm rods, drop the current or alter my technique for this?
Also had trouble earthing both plates properly, is there a good way of doing that? For welding patches into the chassis I can't see any way other than just welding without the inner plate being earthed at first...
Thanks
