How many people on here have actually been stopped and asked about trailers? Loads of people around have not even passed the trailer test and never been stopped never mind asked about the trailer. Brother-in-law actually tipped a livestock
trailer onto its side wiping out some signs
with livestock inside and had no licence and no brakes. Strangely nothing happened to him still driving about with no licence
We've been told the same applies to works trailers , by the office ladyboys .
Are they telling porkys ?
Farm trailers do not need to have the right number plate on, as long as its one for a vehicle registered to that farm. They are the only people allowed to do this.

Never heard of that before. Soon as the police sees 2 different regs they are going to pull you.
It's permitted for agricultural use, provided both registrations are registered to the same owner.
Something I've never heard of Bill. How do they get round speed cameras? You could have several vehicles registered to the farm and any of them could be towing it's just the trailer getting flashed! It's a near certainty you are going to get pulled at 6 in the morning with two different regs. Strange.

It applies to everyone, as long as the number on the trailer will lead plod to the towing vehicles registered keeper it's OK.
I was stopped on M25 with three different numbers (LR front plate correct, but I hadn't spotted the dealer fitted rear plate was one digit out, trailer plate was trailer owners, trailer one didn't matter as LR one could be seen over the unladen trailer.
Plod had checked the rear LR plate which came up as an untaxed Shogun, hence the pull, trailer plate wasn't an issue.
Had a good humoured chat to the Officer who checked the tax disc and was sent on my way, not even a caution.
YMMV.
Tractors wont ever trigger a speed camera.
You were lucky with how your were dealt with but not actually within the law.
Tractors wont ever trigger a speed camera.
Its only the tractors that this applies to.
The landrovers still need the correct reg plates.
Why? Most of the tractors around here can do well over 30mph, some more like 45mph+

People do sometimes get pulled, a lot of police don't know the law. I think a lot of speed cameras photo the vehicle from the front to help with driver ID but whichever registration is used it'll go back to the same keeper.
Many tractors do 30mph as standard these days, and for years there have been those that can do 44mph - more down steep hills!
It is not only tractors this applies to, I looked into it when somebody I know was stopped and threatened to be done. The wording of the law was along the lines of vehicles used for agricultural purposes, not agricultural vehicles.
Incredable, so you can fly down the road in a tractor, pulling a failed 42'+ HGV trailer, carrying god knows how much weight. And speed with impunity.
That answers why they go past our house like they stole it
