Just to add to all the grief, my little 2003 seicento has an ongoing problem that is driving me nuts. It randomly refuses to start. Turn the ignition on and all the lights come on and I can hear the fuel pump power up to pressure, turn the key and nothing happens. Lights don't go dim, just nothing. If I jump it it starts ok and if I roll it down hill it starts fine too. At first I thought it might be the battery so I changed it but no change. I didn't originally suspect the alternator because it was putting out 14.2 on idle, then my mate plugged his scanner in with all the lights and heater on and it dropped to 12.3. Aha! So I changed the alternator yesterday, charging beautifully and starting fine. Now this morning it started ok, drove it to the shop by the workshops, about ten miles and when I left it started fine. Got to the workshop and parked up, came to start it again and its dead. Rolled it away and drove ten miles home, just tried starting it again and nothing. I can't see any bad earths, just checked the cpu leads and they seem ok. The only odd thing was that yesterday the key code light came on, and the engine management light flashed briefly then went off, and the keycode light went out as soon as I turned the engine off and restarted it. I really am at my wits end with it, I'm driving around with a booster charger and extension lead in the back and parking on hills and it's driving me mad. Anyone got any bright ideas? Other than crushing it, which I can't afford to at the moment. Apart from this it's actually a good little car, goes well enough, parks anywwhere and carries a surprising amount of tat when the need arises. The laser cutters call it my "truck". If only it would start when I need it too.
