Hi, new to the forum and welding !! Hoping for some advice please!
I have a Clarke mig 90en, using Lincoln Electric Innershield NR-211-MP Self-shielded Flux Cored Wire 0.76mm with a 0.8 tip.
Have some experience (10hrs+) welding 2-4mm steel, but struggling a bit welding thinner material. I have not been using gas, just gasless welding with it.
The last time I tried welding holes in a motorcycle exhaust (thin steel), I kept making the holes bigger, even though the welder was on the lowest setting, eventually I did sort of weld it by doing short bursts of weld and then eventually holding it there longer to cover the hole more if that makes sense.
But in the end had to use some quik steel putty on the few holes left that I could not weld.
Anyways, now wanting to weld some more little holes on a petrol tank. Tried using that petrol tank leak filler, but this has now failed twice so really need to get it welded properly.
I believe the tanks steel is approx 0.5mm thick, do you have any tips for me?
The manual suggests wire speed of 5-6, but am I right in thinking I need to whack this up on max to get more wire into the weld so hopefully it will pool itself into and around the holes?
Thanks for any help Cheers
(ps tank is empty by the way and will let it sit open cap for a few days before welding!)
