Can anyone assist with ideas to move this forward. I would like to start a long term for me project, and learn how to program to use the sound card and graphical displays in Linux.
I have in mind a SONAR range finder type program, the sound card making pings and then detecting the turn around time. For display I have something similar in mind to the Ham radio psk type programs that have the audio waterfall where the display shows a profile of the echo's return time across the X axis and level in brightness on a constantly falling section. You may understand what I mean!
I selected the idea as I assume there is already code out there for use as examples in the Hamradio world, every PC has a sound card and I have a couple of redundant displays and HP T5700 low power thin clients
But here is the rub, I do not know how to start, what programs I need to use to program, or how I would even start to access the sound card (built in).
So could someone give me pointers, like go off and download this package and try this. Or find that information here, and then I can go off and only ask when I get stuck.
The Thin client will happily run cut down version of Linux say Slacko-5.7 and a few other Puppy style packages, Even have one running Suse 13.1 but will not run the very latest version of Linux, I believe because of the units limited graphics.
My main PC is SUSE 13.2 duel core etc so I would imaging programming would need to be done on that to run on the Thin client.
Years ago I used to do Z80, 8051 asm and limited C programming. I have done some Bash script in linux
What say you, even if I get a resounding no, could you suggest a resource I could toddle off to?
Saying thanks already
Adrian
