So I was expecting some cash in that hasn't materialised to purchase or go towards a Lathe.
I've got an old Minilor TR-1 that will do small jobs but has its problems and needs some TLC (It's been in the family for a while and moved between Dad, myself and my Bro. so a few bits are missing.) So I was wanting to upgrade as its really a model lathe and is OK fro brass and All, but struggles with large steel as its quite fast (360 is the slowest and it goes up to 5250 rpm) there is a missing counter shaft that can drop the speed to 90 and 120 for screw cutting, buts that's still a little fast. There has been one on ebay that went for a couple of hundred quid with a drill press attached. I've got the milling attachment, but the slotted table is missing and one of its problems is the cross slise has alot of bacl lash, so while still usable it could do with a new leadscrew/nut. The saddle's leadscrew is fine as is the rest of the machine.
I thought that a Myford ML7 would do the job, but the Prices are astronomical compared to bigger lathes like a 9" South Bend/Boxford. Therefore I'm leaning towards one of those or a copy. The more lathe you get the cheaper it seems to be but there is a catch!!! None are in Scotland and transportation becomes an issue. I've access to a van so in theory the North of England is OK and that would accommodate an under drive model.
There is a Myford on ebay in Glasgow, but it looks to be in poor condition and its starting at £375 so its pricey for something that will need restoration.
So I suppose I'll just have to wait until the right on comes along and restore the little one i've got then sell the little one
