How are you going to keep the drive in sync with the spindle? If you take a hard cut then the drive chain is going to want to slow down and require more power or are we going down the CNC road here?
looks like this would be the jobbie for you.
Threading generally isn't achieved by taking hard cuts. Though what you say is entirely valid, it must be perfectly possible to get it to work, all of these cnc machining centres use independent motors for spindle and tooling.
