When I'm doing it, I will be taking it serious and will want neat(ish) welds but I want function over form. But my use will be more like once or twice a quarter, maybe even just once or twice every 6 months.
In that case it's unlikely that you will reach an acceptable standard if you have no experience and the intervals between job is that long. Sorry but TIG like all forms of craftsmanship takes lots of practice to maste and needs to be done fairly often to stay on top of.
You'll find that thin ally is tough to weld, thin pipe is even tougher, I dont mean to put you off but if your only going to use the set twice a year and you want to achieve a level of profienciency that will let you tackle boost pipes that are leak free, visually appealing and unlikely to crack and fail then possibly you are setting yourself up for a let down.
Unless you get some intensive training you are in for weeks of struggle trying to overcome the triple problems of cheap unstable set, zero experience and one of the hardest ally jobs to weld.
I'm not trying to put you off but your expectations need to be realistic, is there an evening welding class you can get on that will give you some steps in the right direction before you buy a set and start struggling?
