Long welded is a term used for rail that is completely welded (in long sections) as apposed to jointed which has a physical joint every 60ft
LWR (long welded rail) comes in 709ft lengths (flash butt welded in factory) then thermit welded in situ for as long as required, it then goes through a process called stressing (stretching of rail to a length which is stress free at 27 degrees)
Used to hold our NSRA Northern swap meets there, ELESCAR heritage centre, canny place.

?Should that not be, 'Pushed off the front'? That would allow the delivery train to continue to the next end. I would not fancy man-handling a 709' length of track into position.Believe it or not on a train called the "long welded delivery train" it is dropped (slid) off the back
Little video on it...
when they take the old rails out they just pull alongside the section they want up with flat wagons with cranes on them and lift the complete track and sleepers up in one go 100 meters long and stack them 3 high and cart them off to be dismantled. they have just renewed a mile of track outside out houseNice video, I wonder if they can reverse the process to collect the old rails?.
Should've asked for a bit, it makes a nice anvil.when they take the old rails out they just pull alongside the section they want up with flat wagons with cranes on them and lift the complete track and sleepers up in one go 100 meters long and stack them 3 high and cart them off to be dismantled. they have just renewed a mile of track outside out house
