Morning all, Not posted for a while, but keep popping in and having a look, but could now do with some advise!
I picked up a Harrison lathe yesterday, its either a L5 or an L5A, I haven't had a chance to have a proper look yet, but for £100, I wasn't going to say no. The only issue is, whilst I was told it was single phase (I assume the seller had seen the plug for the lamp), it is actually a 3 phase unit.
I could just fit a single phase motor to it, as I have a couple of 1 1/2 hp ones sitting round, which should be more than powerful enough for what I want to do with it.
However, I'm thinking that I'd rather find some way of making my own 3 phase power, whether it be a static phase converter, a rotary one, a VFD or an inverter. A bit of googling suggests that I'm better off with one of the last two, but I'm confused as to the difference, if there is any.
I've been eyeing up this on ebay, it seems a reasonable price and I've heard of Transwave before, so I presume they are decent

I assume that I could just wire this up to a 3 phase socket and I could then use it with any 3 phase machinery that I buy, which would be useful.
Any thoughts/advise on the above, or am I barking up the wrong tree again?
Cheers
Andrew
