Hi
I have embarked on welding up a 2001 fiesta, already done a lot of it, but opened up the sill with a full outer ready to go on.......unfortunately the job is a bit more involved it would appear, the reinforced bits around the seatbelt mounting are holed and the inner strengthener is shot!
Does anyone know how the middle sill or strengthener would usually be attached at the bottom? It appears that the car has had a full sill replacement in the past and a skin sill has more recently been fitted (well bodged on as was only plug welded all round including on top edge) and they had cut the full sill away in places, this coupled with the rust means i am not a 100% how the strengthener should be joined to the inner/outer sill.
It appears from the remnants of plug/spot weld that there should be a return on the entire bottom edge of the strengthener that is plug welded to the underside of the outer sill, )ie the outer sill would be plug welded on the bottom edge and then on the horizontal underside to join it to the strengthener) can anyone confirm if this is the case? The only other obvious options i can see are
1. It should extend down to the bottom of the sills where the floorpan/inner/outer are usually spotted along the bottom edge, however i am pretty sure there are only 3 panels meeting at the bottom on the other side (floorpan/inner/outer).
2. it should have a double return/lip on the bottom of the strengthener that is spotted to the the inner sill within the sill itself, with the outer and inner then extending down below with the floorpan to be spotted along bottom edge.
Any pointers would be gratefully received
Cheers
