Another thing which is handy is a cheapo digital caliper, get your dimension on the display in metric then hit the mm/inch button for an instant conversion.

Merckx, thats tailstock misalignment usually and you can adjust it out or shim depending on how the tailstock was made and in which plane the error is in, the bed usually wears next to the chuck where the saddle spends most of its time and gives different issues.
