You'll find all sorts of good info on www.lathes.co.uk.
I'm also on the lookout for a bench-top lathe, but they're all too far away to make buying viable as it's very rare for any Seller to courier due to weight. I've even toyed with the idea of hiring a van for a couple of days to collect.
There's a decent looking Warco 818 on eBay ending today, but it's at the opposite end of the country from me......
I would second the going for a heavier industrial lathe like Colchester or Harrison if you can fit them in.
Most of the industrial lathes from the last fourty or fifty years have gearboxes for feed speeds. All but the most expensive myfords rely on fiddling about with changing gear wheels every time you want to change feed rate. A norton type gearbox adds about £500 to the price of a Myford.
One of my options is a Warwick, any good?.
Cheers
rdg tooling has a dedicated myford section on their site
Be careful buying Myford spares - Myford had several legal battles with companies selling poorly made far eastern parts branded as OEM for not a lot cheaper than Myford. I cant see RDG bothering to keep lines separate, they'll just want to make it cheap and sell it branded as Myford to try and convince people its the same quality.
Nearly two years since the original Myford went to the wall and no new machines yet!
