Not sur if you have access to any but my late dad always swore by dye check They used it in RR for crack checking of castings. The casting would be diped in the dye check coloured red then washed off and dusted with white powder (french chalk?) where the powder turned red was a crack. The dye check was/is a very very fine oil and penetrates even the finest of cracks. Dad did say if you put it one side of a rusted nut and bolt it would follow the thread inc through the rusty nut and show on the other side. I have seen references to weld type crack check on the forum used for similar testing. If you could find a workshop that does the dye type dipping then get them to dunk yer rims.
