Shame if it's true, an established specialist supplier. But that's the way it's going...in a few years time you will just be left with Nationals fronted by clueless staff on minimum wage with sales targets, or eBlag dominated by opportunists just after your folding stuff.
Think that's true, although the UK division is very much still in operation. Possibly a tax move, ie.make a huge loss in the US & pay no tax on your UK operation Many a European company come unstuck in the US though (they want supersize for petite prices! )
This pretty much sums up why Europe and the US are in huge debt (plus the wars obviously). Nobody wants to make anything and don't see a problem in sending their money to another continent. The economy would have been ok if we produced stuff, Canada and Oz are doing pretty well because they have mines and the Germans make cars etc. American companies sell lots of products but much of the production is outsourced to China and lots of components from American goods come from there too.
