My Nephew a welder for nearly 30 years had terrible trouble finding a job in Australia, too many foreign workers willing to work for less pay. They can pick and choose from a vast array of eastern workers, who he says are really good welders and work for less.Minimum is out the window out if the big cities.Unless you have a job to go to forget it.
Seems to be loads of welding fabricating jobs advertised tho and according to some sites its a skilled trade they ate desperate to get people to fill roles in, even had people I know living I'm that part of the world saying the same
I did a stint working both in NZ and aus, It was more general maintance doing this and that, Australia was at the time very hard as an Englishman to get decent work, I didnt enjoy the work eithic, or the way I was treated by the Australians in all honesty, NZ is a far better place to work and they have a greater respect for you as a person over accent....
I think much depends on age faimily freinds commitments etc back in the UK, to if you can make a life work over there, In some ways it appears a paradise but for me the reality was as time goes past you feel a bit isolated, Its suppriseing how many have made the move then returned some years latter..
Are welders needed in view of immigration? this is also a stumbling block and what quails/codeings do you hold/held.. age will also be considered by immigration..
Plenty of work over in Western Australia due to the natural resources boom...The Gorgon Project alone is worth $48 Billion and counting...Try seek.com.au for a job search.
I packed in my previous career (Marine Construction/Piling) when I came over 5 years ago and took a more leisurely job in the boat building industry. I've just been offered a job over in WA for a Marine Piling contractor....$45 hr + $180 week site bonus + $115 a day expenses....10hr day...11 days on 3 off....all travel paid to Perth..I'm negotiating a longer rota and a longer leave cycle as I live in Queensland and they look like they will pay some of the airfare over to QLD....
I've just about had enough of this county I work very long hours self employed but the cost of living etc here just goes up and up, I just fancy a change of scenery a bit is all I guess
Go for it mate....best move I've ever done....great weather, great beaches, easy going people very laid back and everyone speaks English..... I'm married to an Aussie so my visa application was reasonably straight forward but if you are focused on your dream you will succeed.....
I can't see you having any trouble getting work, where i work they are way understaffed and still other companies are poaching our staff. if anyone is serious about coming to australia consider that not all mining jobs are paying outragous money and if you want work it easy to find. most jobs offering large sums usually require working away or living in expensive areas. THERE IS A MINIMUM rate of pay and there is government departments to ensure that you are not getting ripped off. employment oppurtunities for skilled persons with eligibility to work in australia are abundant but wages usually start at around $25Aus as low as that sounds at first it is a comfortable wage over here for tradesmen/women.
word of mouth for job oppurtunity.
