Forgive me showing off my total incompetance, it comes of being a smith, well that and a certified idiot, I mean agricultural engineer. I have a regular need to weld pieces of forgework to a steel plate. Plate is either 5 or 6mm and the forged bits are usually 8mm round, at least where I want to weld them. I was thinking Tig would be the way to go...I have a fronius 317 mig running on 0.8mm but although its great for most of my stuff it still looks like chewing gum so I want something finer. Now. I also have a BOC/Murex DC300 arc welder, which I bought without cables. I have hooked up a set of cables for MMA welding and it works very nicely as an arc welder, but what else do I need to get to turn it into a tig, and is this a good idea anyway? It does have a tig setting on it but there is no sign of a gas solenoid. Any answers? Many thanks,
Julian
P.S. The other reason I was thinking TIG is because I want to keep the heat input low-had a problem with distortion on a couple of pieces and it gave me serious grief!
