I want to repair some door bottoms on my car and possibly other areas. The door skin is 1.0mm thick. Other body panels I measured are also 1.0mm thick.
Question is what thickness of sheet steel to buy? Do I go for the same thickness as existing body panels (1.0mm) or buy some thicker 1.2mm? (1.2mm is 20% thicker than 1.0mm!)
I am a novice welder and I am concerned about blowing holes through thin sheet steel and distortion. Will I be OK with 1.0mm if a tack weld as per the tutorial.
Would 1.2mm thick steel butted to 1.0mm panel cause problems?
