Right lads, need a wee bit of advice - looks like rather than knocking up bird tables, gates and clamps as I'd hoped, my first real project is going to be body mounts, and body cross member brackets on my Disco.
As we all know, theoretically, in theory is the same as in practice, but in practice, is sure aint - so as much as I can weld in college, I'm a bit apprehensive....
I need to knock up a wee welding table, make the wee outrigger/brackets, weld the outriggers to the chassis legs, and weld the new cross member brackets on, then bolt it all back together.
Got a few questions here:
I'll be working outside, MIG or stick? (I'm looking for my first welder, no preference really, as I'm sure I'll acquire one of each in time...)
Welding the brackets to the chassis legs - would I do the vertical welds up or down?
Welding the cross member brackets - that's going to be overhead, which I've never attempted - any pointers?
Keen to get started on this, much as I've got a lot of gear to buy, and am making it up as I go along, I'm thoroughly ****** off with people letting me down.
Thanks in advance
