and clearly they know what they are doing, have been doing it for a while.. and you have never done that particular thing, why would you offer them advice, having given the matter a minute or twos thought, and not knowing the full circumstances?
Both, and the world over.. I blame decorators and sign writers for not throwing tins of paint at people who said 'you missed a bit' or 'I before E..' to them as they wandered past. It would have nipped this sort of thing in the bud.Is this IRL or on the internet?
IRL I have a mate who does this. Brings me jobs to do with wood as he maintains he can't do wood, and then tells me how I should be doing it. Even walking off and telling him I'll make him a coffee when he's finished didn't have a long term effect.
People are wierd.

TBH many times happens to figure out a better way to do things .and clearly they know what they are doing, have been doing it for a while.. and you have never done that particular thing, why would you offer them advice, having given the matter a minute or twos thought, and not knowing the full circumstances?

For example I'm not a professional fabricator but happened to give advice about a ladder to a friend of mine who does that since he was 18 (35 today)
Professionals understand that everyday they can learn something new even from a perfect nobody.

It would be a lot easier to spot that genius if people just stopped throwing the rubbish about..sometimes fresh eyes are helpful, listen to all advice 99% will be rubbish but 1% genius

Thats different. Thats collegiate. It's a wise man who asks someone who knows the game for advice. I used to have a shop, and from the inside you could see the pain on the poor signwriters face, every time an old duffer stopped, point at the bit he had just done and laughed uproariously as if it was the first time in human history someone had made the misspelling 'joke' then 5 minutes later it would happen again. A few years ago, I posted a pic of my first weld on line. Three people said turn it up, two said turn it down. I mean people must know when they post this rubbish that its not helping anyone and just making them look daft into the bargain. Rarely a day goes by that I dont weld something, but I dont offer advice as I am a rank beginner compared to a lot on here, but I do follow a thread if I dont know the answer so I can learn something. It's a bit demoralising when you see advice, follow it, and it turns out the poster is just making stuff up.Chap I'm working for atm is a fair woodworker. Obviously knows what he's doing. His family in america are builders/framers and he built his own place.
Asked me to have a think on the best way to make these up

Sussed out an option with a router cutter and jig and he's saved himself a fortune
Fresh eyes make a difference regardless of skill.
Intent vs effect.
if I ask ‘why don’t you do it this way?’
my INTENT is to gain knowledge, teach me why do you do it that way over any other way.
My EFFECT is you hear ‘why are you doing it wrong’
As the Cap’n says “What we have here is a failure to communicate”
Some people go their whole lives wondering why people dislike them because they can’t see what they meant wasn’t how it sounded. And that’s not the listeners problem.
