Sorry. But I have not seen so much crap surrounding this video and others like it especially on Facebook and the like.
Firstly, It is not a “cold” welder. It’s a DC Tig inverter with a spot welding function. Pretty much every modern inverter Tig welder with an advanced front panel since around the last 20 years or so has this feature.
Secondly, this isn’t new. I myself and many others have been doing this at exhibitions and open days etc just to show something a little different, however it’s real world applications are very limited and is in no way a replacement for “proper” Welding
You're absolutely right I learned to MIG weld the wrong way when I was younger... by doing a series of spot weld tacks... looked great to my inexperienced eye.I think all my welds are probably sub standard compared to a skilled welder but I get by and I’m getting better like all these things practice makes perfect we’ve all got to start somewhere
So what part of the red hot metal is cold? I’ve seen this before, and it confused the heck out of me then too.
Cold weld means a weld lacking penetration. That's what Justin explains in the video.
