There's no (Or very little) reaction torque with an impact driver, the inertia of the tool itself resists the turning so they're much easier and safer, to handle, especially at arms length, up a ladder, on your tiptoes. They also tend to spin faster than drills before the impacting starts so screws they can wind in most of the way with no impacts will go much faster, big ones that need impacting all the way in will be faster in the drill. For really serious torque, there's always the 1/4" hex adaptor for the impact wrench.
