We had some bedroom dressers that we were given 20 odd years a go. They were proper wood and were probably classed as reproductions 50-60 years. My wife listed them on Facebook to get rid of them. They were quite dark ugly things. The lady who bought them sent some pictures after she'd painted them. They looked really nice.
Going away from the norm can be challenging, often you see it somewhere else and think it looks cool and when you try and do it yourself it just doesn't seem to work.
We have neighbours where all of their crockery is mix and match, when you have a meal there it's served in a random mix of serving bowls/pan/plates, I know if I did I'd be thinking nothing matches
Better not come to eat at ours, then ...
