yes.......I bought some from a boat auction but I didnt know what they were like inside....you cant see it all.....if you cant guarantee clenliness, freedom from rust, they dont want them....I mean you wouldnt want to fill a rusty can with petrol.
a new plastic one is cheaper and easierI'd've poured a cup of poxy resin in, and "rotomoulded" a lining on the inside

That figures - trust the military to come up with a long-winded definition of a fuel can. When I joined up, one item of kit issued was 'drawers green cellular'. They were meant to be underpants but were totally impractical. They did make decent hankies though.Jeri as it was first spelt was an acronym for J.E.R.I or Journey Extension Refillable Item.
Really? My dad who fought in WW2 said it was because they were copied from the German (Jerry) fuel tins.According to this site. They were called J.E.R.I cans
‘The history of the Jerrycan is notable because it was reverse engineered during World War II. Jeri as it was first spelt was an acronym for J.E.R.I or Journey Extension Refillable Item. Also commonly called a Journey Can.‘
Wow what an ingenious design. Certainly won’t be cutting it up now.

There was a square funnel for use with those tins, the tin fitted into it, so you could invert the tin into it & let it “glug” out into the car.i have a few of the Pratts/Shell/Esso soldered cans with the brass screw caps (far left on the can history piccie), also from my dad, that are still perfectly useable, other than I don't have a spout and have to rummage for a funnel.
This one is original I believe
