What engine is that?
Baby rover v8. I have changed oil plenty of times but i think there has been serious neglect in a previous life
prob cheap reclaimed oil....
With V8`s I have always put sludge build up down to cold running and cheap oil, a lot of them never get up to proper running temperature long enough burn off the condensation. Get one that spends its life on a motorway and it will be spotless inside.

the old V8s ran well on diesel oil , OMD75 standing for Oil Mineral Detergent , and as long as it was changed it seemed to prevent a lot of that , never seemed to get much in the line of camshaft wear either on omd75.
The rear of the sump on RV8s pretty much always leaks, it’s because the two rear bolts that hold the sump on are too far apart so the middle section doesn’t get sufficient clamping pressure. When you put it back together cut a bit of 3 or 4mm plate to sit in the flange on the sump and go between these bolts to try and stiffen the sump flange.
The general thinking with them seems to be not to use a gasket at all, use a decent RTV, nip the bolts, let it dry, then tighten them up.
I did this on my TVR 5.0L RV8 and it’s been dry for a couple of years so far.
