Occasionally get discussions about this sort of thing here, so took a few seconds to photo whilst showing a young lad how to sort out a minor messup this morning.
One of the young lads and an apprentice fine tuning dimensions on a frame yesterday with the big carver clamps, big as in 8ft long and a 2 man lift...
Cue a massive crash. Clamp dropped onto the lower bit of the virtually finished frame....Their plan was to fill it with cold weld and sand it back...
100x50x3 stainless box.
Knock up a slide hammer from some rubbish...
Weld into the middle of the dent...
And hammer away...
Cut it off, move very slightly to finally pull the exact little dimple up. and give another couple hits...
Check flatness, and hit welds off with a fibre disc...aim is just to take the weld off really, not to remove material thickness.
Quick going over with a mop and flapper to restore the finish... once its been acid cleaned and washed nobody will ever know.
Hopefully a handy trick he'll remeber.
