Re. Tightening, I'm afraid I'm in the corner cutting gloved hand camp.....but
I can see that there is a reason it's recommended to do it properly, with the spanner. If you read "hand tight" and just spin it on loose, it could quite easily overtighten with way more torque than you can achieve with a wrench and crush the centre. If the disc is loose enough to spin freely, then grabs, with the full momentum of the drivetrain behind it squeezing the nut up, it'll tighten MORE, than if it grabs when properly torqued with a spanner.
We do what we see as appropriate with our own choices but advising "hand tight" could be interpreted as too loose
