It's cast iron, better to silver solder or braze!!You do not really need the full length of the gib strip for it to be functional, weld the bits back on and make sure they do not foul the dovetails, all sorted.

Correct, new gib strips are provided oversize and need to be scraped in to a freshly scraped dovetailI’d imagine due to the wear on your machine it would need bluing to see that it’s making proper contact
They are usually cast iron.If it's cast then yes, absolutely.
I have an M300 and the Gib strips are steel so they must have changed at some point, or mine are just very highly polished cast. Never seen a cast Gib strip to be honest.
