Decided to make a set of throwing knives out of some truck springs.
They looked about the right thickness but turned out to be 7.5mm which is frankly a bit chunky. The little cut 25 plasma sort of went through it but it really didn't like it.
Also made a right mess which was tricky to tidy up.
I think it was at this point I annealed them, took the bits to red hot and left to cool.
Here they are annealed and straightened a bit but I am not convinced about the anneal. I will certainly want to normalise them because I get the impression they really want to bend back into spring form.
During this process I refined the design to more closely match the stock. It started out with a much more "knifey" look with some lovely curves but what I really want is a "no spin" design. This is what I came up with.
Straight edges so you can guide the blade with a backspin flick of the finger and without the flared blade which would be aerodynamically unsound.
