And whatever you do, DON'T do it in the shed, the fumes given off will turn *everything* else rusty - do it outdoors, in a corner of the garden away from anything you care even the slightest about, and have a big bucket of washing soda in water as an emergency drench to hand...

A guy I know, who bought a few Machine gun spares from had a disaster with Hydrochloric, his gardener dropped a glass container of HCL in the old garden chapel where he displayed some of his collection of WW1 guns and aero engines, within seconds everything went rusty, he stripped the rusty bits off and sent them off for re-blueing using fedex or DHL packed in a hoover box, box went missing from the van, parts from 15 or more Lewis and Vickers guns, 20 Lewis double capacity magazines for WW1 aircraft use, probably all went into the scrap when found not to be a nice new cleaner, impossible to replace and of great value.........
