was it to coinside with europe with out googleing ?
Does anyone know why Blue and Brown were chosen? Does it help colour blind people?

It was to harmonise with european cable colours.
The worrying thing is to harmonise they've made an old line colour (3 phase) into a neutral colour and an old neutral colour into a new line colour, not the best idea. It was 2006 it was brought in if I remember rightly.
Inded it was, 17th edition, Amendment 2 IIRC. Though that was for fixed wiring, flexible wiring changed many years ago, way before I was doing any domestic electrics. And yes, all to come into line with Europe. It was to harmonise with european cable colours.

Like everyone else, I know that and if I didn't Google would have soon told me. I remember the changes to flex coming in. It must have been at the time of Wilson's tenure, so sometime between 1964 and 1976, hence the mnemonic.
My question was why are the European colours Blue and Brown?
Those are not intuitively Neutral and Live colours - at least not to a native English speaker with British cultural references. What technical or practical or historical reason for the specific colours that Europe chose to use?
For example, I wondered if it was to help Red/Green colour blind people.
Why not Pink and Purple
Duck Egg Blue and Khaki?
Orange and Sky Blue Pink with Yellow dots????
I'm sure they only started putting moulded plugs on stuff as a cost saving exercise but it's definitely a safety blessing in disguise.

Nope, stuff would come without a plug, my dad had an ironmongers shop when I was a teenager and I fitted no end of plugs to stuff he sold
Around mid nineties when moulded plugs became the standard, wasn't it? I can recall fitting a good few plugs too.
Brown is an earthy colour - so surely it should be for earth
And sparks are blue, aren't they, that should be live?
Dave H. (the other one)
So I can only surmise they person who wired this knew what they were doing
