One of my mates was based in Portsmouth and had family in Glasgow, he had an RX8 and the return trip used around 3 to 4 tanks of fuel but not a lot of time, especially when he travelled through the night
Have I seen an Aussie car with a 6 rotor engine or was that a lockdown induced hallucination?
Looks good, I like the different builds
The 3 rotor engines where quite rare not sure about this 6 rotor one though maybe bolt them together
NSU RO80 often had the rotary engine replaced with a conventional engine as an adaptor plate was commercially available. Nobody was prepared to work on the Wankel at the time. Beautiful car, not seen one for many years even at shows.
As an aside, the Norton rotary engines were built under almost surgical conditions at Shenstone.
totally agreeSo the moral of the story is.
If you want a job done right do it yourself.
to be fair a lot of people in the know run these engines on a weak 2 stroke mix to help preserve the life of the seals with great success.
these engines get abused with little knowledge and maintenance work.
so can be a bargain to those who know what they're doing.
I really fancied an RX8 and came close to buying one a couple of years ago. I need a car with rear seats and these seemed to fit the bill perfectly. The high road tax on later cars is a bit annoying, the fuel economy didn't bother me as its only a weekend car and the engine issues didn't bother too much either. You know what you are buying into, the rebuilds aren't too costly and if you factor this into the buying price.
What stopped me from buying was the rust issues they can also suffer with. I'm sure there are rust free cars about, but it just felt like there was too many problems and I hate dealing with rust. The prices for these seem to vary wildly also, not sure why?
I'll wait until the gt86 comes into my price range. Nice cars though.
The Mericuns just tear out anything they dont understand and poke a v8 into it, thats what the RX `s get in the states. I nearly did the same to an RX7 that had died but the axle ratio was totally unsuitable for anything other than drag racing, swapping in an axle seemed more grief than it was worth. Some nice running gear on the FDS , I am using some of it on a toy car.
Decent little uprights with a big vented disc and gurt fourpot caliper. Ignore my scribbles on the pic
