I want to paint the inside of my cleaning tank as over the years the paint has worn away and need tidying up what would you guys recomend bearing in mind I use solvent cleaners
Epoxy garage floor paint, I used it for the coolant tank on my lathe and it's stood up well to the unholy mix of cutting oil and white spirit I sometimes use - YMMV, and don't tell the HSE!
It was the leftovers after doing the floor, it's pretty tough.
I scrubbed it with brake cleaner, my usual soaker-up ("small animal bedding" sawdust from the pet shop), repeated a few times, my coolant tank inside is cast iron "fresh" from the foundry (in 1955...) but I guess you could go over it with a coarse flap disc or something to key it if it needed? IO ground off a few casting flashes to eliminate yechhh traps, but yours looks pretty neat inside
I will clean it up with a flap disc and then a wire brush on angle grinder.
Is it worth etch priming or giving it a coat of red oxide before the floor paint?
I just went straight at it with the epoxy, but I was in a rush... It does stick pretty well!
You might give it a slosh of phosphoric acid, it rustproofs and keys the surface pretty well - more important on steel than cast iron i think?
