I fixed the trucks to an RSJ with some small blocks to raise them up and then burried the lot in 2mx0.5x0.5m of concrete. Worked a treat and still going strong. Then it has an upper guide to take the top of the gate.
There are calculators online to work out the overhang/cantliver and spacing of the trucks but mine is a 3.5m opening and I think i had a 4m Gate.
As said before the wind plays a big part but if its not automated you should be fine. Mines automated but i left that part to an installer, who set up the sensors.
