Made not in Sheffield. I bought a digital Moore and Wright caliper for the shop. Really poor.
You will see on many forums how people have bought a "good digital caliper" from Aldi or Lidl. There is no such thing. When you are using this stuff day in day out to make a living you need good kit.
You are equating something for professional use to something you can pick up when you get a pint of milk for a tenner? I’d stand by my digital caliper from Lidl is good, not to say excellent for the money. It’s repeatable, has been on the same battery for about 3 years, and continues to work faultlessly. It reads the same my other “good” set whenever I do a comparison.Made not in Sheffield. I bought a digital Moore and Wright caliper for the shop. Really poor.

Yeah, the company I work for provide UKAS accredited calibration to the aerospace, pharmaceutical and other various industries. We have a UKAS accredited lab that we use for calibrating our own test gear. But I tend to knock stuff up in my garage so I don’t really need that level of accuracy, so I’d still stand by my assertion that my cheapy Lidl callipers are “Good”. (Maybe it would be better described as “Good enough for intended use”)One of my responsibilities when I was working was to manage our teams of mobile calibration technicians who worked in paper mills, printing and packaging units all over the world. Our service was accredited by Ukas and A2LA and probably the most important measurement we made was determination of measurement uncertainty, which takes account not only of accuracy and repeatability of an instrument but variability due to the operator and external conditions such as test atmosphere. If you don't know the uncertainty of measurement you could be fooling yourself about how "good" your instrument is.
