You answered your own question. Now, why do you think manufacturers give the figures in Cubic Feet per Minute and not in PSI?
So you think he will need more than 45 CFM?
If your compressor gives a figure of 45cfm @ 120psi you can bet that at 50psi you will be getting considerably more than 45 cfm.
I think Parm has it right with two regulators but to be honest a Y piece will probably work just fine, just not at best efficiency. It is a practical solution, but not a scientific one.
