No 2 son gave me his old bicycle. I last owned one half a century ago, so the technology has changed a tad.
He is only slightly taller than me but has stupidly long legs - 36" inside leg - and gorilla arms to match.
I bought a more padded saddle, set the seat height appropriately and moved the saddle adjustment as far forward as possible. Saddle to pedal to ground is fine, but the bars are too low and too far forward for comfort. About 75mm back and up would be about right.

This part seems to come in different lengths, but I'm not entirely sure about the various dimensions and the parts are too expensive to blindly order replacements.
What other dimensions do I need to ensure I get the right part and a recommendation for an on-line supplier please? What horrors would it do to the steering geometry to just turn it through 180 deg??
Back in the day the bars could moved up/down in the same way as the saddle, but I'm a bit lost with this. Can they be raised? How?

Can anyone point me to an on line idiots guide to modern bicycles to avoid me cluttering up the Forum with such basics? Other than Halfords in the next town the nearest bicycle shop is less than helpful as I didn't buy the bicycle from him!
