look! i made a thing!
this is going to take a while, and probably go through a few permutations, so i figured it deserves its own thread...
ive had that little electric compressor for about 20 years! cant kill it, ive been waiting to build a petrol compressor out of it for as long as i can remember, but it just wont die!
ive got a old generator with most of its bits robbed for dads (much newer!) generator, so i have whats left of this engine left over.
first idea was to leave the pump in its original position and mount the engine end on,
the problem with that is ill never be able to get 100% perfect alignment along the drive shaft, and much badness will very likely happen. i knew that, so the idea was to use a universal joint. the issue with that is one that can take the power is really expensive!
so i rotated the pump by 90* and loved it to the far end of the tank and remounted it
then i mounted the engine next to it and stuck a pulley on the pump (the other pulley off my crap pillar drill turns out to be a perfect fit so win!)
as it stands now, i just need to add a belt tensioner, (i'm going to modify a rx8 one with a vee belt pulley) a unloader valve and a safety blow off valve. plus the obvious, a fuel tank and exhaust.
and a new carb, because that's one of the reasons i scrapped the gene!
current state of play...
gotta do something on a sunday!
