Hmm the obvious problem I can see with that is the quality of the GSF stuff. I used 3mm wall on mine as it gets used and abused I'm not sure I'd want to go any thinner than 2mm particularly if I assume right and you're going to join the 2 at the A pillar? There's quite a bit of stress on that bit which is the main reason I didn't cut straight through, I wanted at least some un-jointed steel in that area!
If I were to do it again I think I'd keep the width full length but spend more time shaping the front. Where I've lost the profile of the inner wing it's reduced my turning circle considerably, particularly with 195 80 R15s on there. You can see here what I mean...
