The blades of my ride- on mower have 6mm 88 grade shear bolts and nuts. They seem a bit fragile and are easily sheared resulting in a blade clash and often a broken timing belt at an official retail of nearly £40 a pop. Internet sellers do £11 PIX replacements which have a rounded tooth profile rather than the wedge profile of the “genuine”.
Question, is there a grade of bolt that is more resistant to shear or is that purely in relation to the cross sectional area of the 6mm bolt ?
