So i am been making some heavy duty steel locks 20mm thick mild steel and ive decided to best serve my customers the best product then these should be heat treated to withstand attacks better.
Bare in mind i got limited resources as such (no outsourcing) how would you guys heat up to bright red hot a single piece of metal thats 600mmx300mm 200mm in height 20mm thick steel?
The only gas i could possibly use is propane if you guys suggest i go down that route with it. but would it be enough to do it properly? and after hardening (quenching) how do you do the 2nd stage correctly temperature wise to take out some the brittleness without over doing it?
the other way is through induction?? but i have little know how in it and i am not sure if a induction loop can be big enough for it? i only got a 40amp single phase supply to do this.
Any help would be hugely appreciated as always )
