We have always had them around this way although they do seem to be getting a bit more common nowadays or maybe just braver. There is a family that are often seen in the Brothock burn that runs right through Arbroath and down to the sea at the back of my workshop.Bonny animals, see a few round here. Daughter was doing her Duke of Edinburgh hike and camp thing last summer. They camped on the beach. Got up in the morning to see two otters playing in the sea weed just yards away from their tent.

I used to see them nearly every day when I worked in and around Perth (for a year or two), then again we were usually skulking about river banks in the night so I suppose that was when you would expect to see themI think there’s more of them about. When I started keepering in the eighties you very rarely saw sign of otters. I have them on my beat. Nice to hear the cubs squeaking when their out and about
