If that's a steel bolt in an alloy block isn't there a process that dissolves the steel but leaves the alloy behind? I can't remember what it's called but I'm sure I've seen it talked about on here.
There is, but it's not a fast process, and has various pitfalls. There's the obvious one of you end up dissolving something you don't want dissolved, and it can still attack the aluminium alloy. Plus it would probably takes weeks to dissolve a bolt out.
I want to say it involves Alum, but I don't think that's right.
It's nice and flat on the end, centre punch and drill it then tap out when you get near to size.
