After having my lovely little Rav4 for two years two months with out a single issue she decided to develop a leak out of the water pump. I stayed late at work to investigate it and after 2 hours it was a mix of bolts breaking, ac pump refused to come out and then realised as it’s full time 4x4 it’s practically an engine out job
£300 for a mate to fit new pump, belt, and two tensioners.
so I decided that instead of saving like I had planned for a low mileage discovery 1 v8 I was almost forced to find one rather sharpish. I’d been studying eBay, autotrader and forums for a suitable car and had missed out on a few.
so last weeks lovely train journey to Horsham was to collect my discovery 1 3.9 v8. She’s an auto with 7 cloth seats and no air con which is the spec I wanted, sadly she has twin sun roofs but the rear needs sealing up as it has a very slow leak
the car has solid arches, sills and boot floor as well as A posts and body mounts
I crawled over it for 2 hours until I was happy with it, there is a slight oil leak on the engine next to the distributor so once the weather stops I will be outside sorting that out
the chap I picked it up from deals in them and had intended to keep it, he has recently spent over £450 for a full fluid change and timing belt and water pump as well as 4 new tyres
His only reason for selling was a customer traded an auto jap import with 77k.... kilometres he obviously pulled the customers pants down so he decided to let karma even up when he sold this
I ended up winning it for £770 on eBay and have covered almost 200 miles in it so far and only used half a tank of juice so feeling quite a pleased with it
Once the rain stops I will go for a blast and take some pictures of it incase anyone can’t remember what a discovery one looks like
