I went to check out a nice mill this week, and ended up buying another lathe as well, oops. That's all great, but now I'm looking at getting them both home from Lincoln to Central Scotland.
I started looking at 7.5 tonne hire vans, but the mill weighs in at 1250kg, which I think rules out a tail lift, and I haven't found a HIAB that I can private hire. Offloading my end is okay, as the friendly farm next door have a telehandler, so big van could still be an option if I find someone the other end to load.
I think my next best DIY option is to hire to a 4x4 and tilt bed trailer with winch. I'd ideally want to get down and up in one (long) day, as don't really want to park up overnight in services. So thinking 3 days rental to play it safe, that's probably £500 all in with fuel.
I got a quote today from a machinery movers, but was well over £2k, so that's out. (At half of that I think I would have just said yes - to be insured and hassle free - but was possibly being unrealistic).
Wondering what other options I'm missing? Perhaps a pallet service (@fizzy ?), but am bit unsure how to get them prepared and transported safely? (That said I'm also pretty wary of loading and transporting them myself, have not moved anything this heavy before).
Scratching my head a bit here, so any suggestions welcome Thanks!
