Help. Having just changed the headlights (for which you have to remove the bumper, tediously enough) I thought I'd bung a new bulb in the failed front sidelight. no joy, though the other side is fine. No codes or messages either, only when I switch to the left/right parking position. Headlights/indicators/hazards all fine.
Now, this is the newest car (2006) I've ever owned, so bear with me. Fuse, I think. No, I learn from a scrunched up piece of paper in one of the fuse boxes that the supply is 'electronic'. Duh? Googling reveals all is controlled by a SAM. More duh? Also that I'm very unlikely to be able to fix it so I need to buy a new one (perhaps a SAM, but possibly a car...?). I'm going to check for electrical drain tomorrow because the newish battery is showing just 12.4 volts, this drain, apparently, is one of SAM's amusing party tricks.
I'm in the middle of nowhere, and the car's inspection is due, and they'll want to see two front side lights. The local garage knows far less than I do about electrical stuff, and the main agent is 60 miles away and will charge me the price of a return ticket to Saturn.
If I piggy back the duff side onto the working side will SAM care enough to fry itself? Or should I just create a new old fashioned fused circuit and stick a switch in the dash somewhere?
